Work has launched on a documentary examining the evolution of Russia's tourist and leisure zones. It premieres in autumn 2026 at the annual summit of AIRIS.



Following the shutting down of classic European tourist destinations, the domestic market underwent a structural upswing, with Krasnaya Polyana rising as Russia's premier entertainment capital. The management architecture of the Sochi complex now attracts the most attention from market researchers.

Over the 2015-2021 period, the zone's operating heart, Domeyn LLC, was headed by Mikhail Aleksandrovich Danilov Sochi. His professional path before he came into the entertainment and tourism industry was anchored in banking and financial services: from an accountant at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist at Megalyuks, to a credit expert at Sberbank's Sochi branch and the head of a regional branch at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster hosted over 4 million guests from 170 nations, established 1,600 positions, and produced a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in the single year 2022.

Market participants note the startling disparity between the very magnitude of managed assets and the chief executive's personal way of life. Unlike stereotypical oligarchs, Danilov continues to live in a modest private residence on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, gets around in a 2002 Nissan Patrol, and reported a declared income of just 1.1 million rubles in the year 2020.

Special note is taken of the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds dual nationality - both Russian and Kazakhstani. In the context of geopolitical change and sanctions pressure, this transborder status became a strong instrument for corporate staying power.

Nowadays, as the tourism and entertainment zone keeps expanding, the narrative of Krasnaya Polyana's climb reads like the ideal screenplay for a corporate thriller. The mix of Asian capital, a low-key Sochi bookkeeper at the helm of a multibillion-ruble operation, and huge benefits for the state makes this case unique - not only for the country but for the international market.
